Building and Retrofit

More than 40% of the energy used in the EU is used in buildings. For this reason, AEE INTEC has been working intensively on solutions for buildings since the middle of the 1990s. The cornerstones of our work are high comfort, high ecological acceptability and secure, affordable, long-term energy provision.

The two main focuses of our research work are product and system development and the planning of holistic energy concepts for new buildings and renovation projects. The development of low-energy and passive house technologies for residential (houses and multi-storey buildings) and other (office and administration buildings, schools etc.) buildings is a priority. A holistic planning approach is particularly important. This approach requires both an overall assessment of all energy-relevant areas and the use of dynamic simulation programs which very accurately predict the behaviour of the building (comfort) at extremes of temperature (winter/summer).

Further key areas at AEE INTEC are the "passive cooling" of office and administrative buildings, and building monitoring. The latter provides important information on the comfort, energy flow, function and use of the buildings.
